UK Rejoining the European Union Back in Focus as Parliament Set to Debate Public Petition

Londonو (Zahid Anwar Mirza) – The possibility of the United Kingdom rejoining the European Union (EU) has once again become a subject of political debate. The British Parliament is set to debate a public petition on Monday calling for the UK to reconsider its membership of the bloc. The petition has attracted more than 110,000 signatures.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan urged the British government last month to prepare the public for the possibility of the UK returning to the European Union. He has also called on the Labour Party to adopt a clear position and make an explicit commitment regarding the country’s potential re-entry into the EU.

The petition argues that “Brexit is not working” and calls on the UK to consider rejoining the European Union.

The parliamentary debate will provide MPs with an opportunity to express their views on the issue. However, holding the debate does not mean that a decision has been made for Britain to rejoin the EU.

The issue is likely to remain part of the wider political discussion about Britain’s future relationship with Europe, the economic consequences of Brexit and the direction of the country’s European policy.
