G7 should push India to Grant Kashmiris Right to Self-Determination: KCEU’s Chair Ali Raza Syed
Brussels, (Unib Rashid) __ Chairman Kashmir Council Europe (KCEU) Ali Raza Syed asked G7 countries to push India to end atrocities against the oppressed people of Jammu and Kashmir and grant them right to self-determination.
The G7 summit, scheduled for the 15th of this month in Canada, will host the Indian Prime Minister as a guest.
In a statement Ali Raza Syed said, for 77 years, India has oppressed the Kashmiri people through brutal military force, extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and unlawful detentions. A number of political leaders and human rights activists including Yasin Malik and Khurram Pervaiz are imprisoned, while daily violence against civilians continues unchecked in the Indian illegally occupied Kashmir.
Chair of KCEU said, the G7 nations, committed to global peace and economic stability, must leverage their influence to hold India accountable for political rights of the people of Kashmir. South Asia cannot achieve true stability until the Kashmir conflict is resolved justly. The Kashmir Council EU’s Chair called upon the G7 to demand India to an immediate end to human rights abuses in Kashmir. G7 should support a peaceful resolution per UN resolutions and Kashmiri aspirations and use diplomatic and economic tools to ensure India complies with international law, he added as saying, the sustainable development in South Asia hinges on justice for Kashmir.
He further said, as international peace and security, global economic stability and growth are of the goals of G7, leaders of this group should know that peace in South Asia is linked to durable solution of Kashmir issue.
The Group of Seven (G7) is an informal grouping of seven of the world’s advanced economies, including Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, as well as the European Union.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney invited his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi to the upcoming Group of Seven summit. India is not a G7 member but can be invited as a guest to its annual gathering, which will be held this year in Kananaskis in the Canadian province of Alberta, from June 15 to 17, 2025.
