Brussels/Layyah, (Unib Rashid) — A sustainability-focused agricultural initiative that began in 2020 with smallholder cotton farmers in Layyah is gaining recognition for promoting climate-smart and regenerative farming practices aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s sustainable cotton sector.
Since its launch, the initiative has worked closely with farmers to improve soil health, promote responsible water stewardship, enhance biodiversity, and encourage integrated pest management practices. The programme has also emphasized clean and safe cotton-picking methods to improve both environmental and labour standards within the cotton value chain.

One of the project’s major achievements has been the development of full traceability from farm to finished product, creating a transparent “farm-to-fashion” supply chain model. Organizers say the system helps improve accountability, sustainability, and consumer confidence in ethically sourced cotton products.
The initiative’s leadership credited the progress to the dedication of its team and the resilience and commitment of the farming communities involved in the project.

The organization also acknowledged the support and collaboration of several international institutions and partners, including Imperial College London, Imperial Global Ghana, Commonwealth Scholarship Commission, and FCDO Services.
Project representatives said they are now focused on expanding their impact further by promoting sustainable, traceable fashion and strengthening environmentally responsible food systems in the region.
