Brussels, (Unib Rashid) – A new book examining the role and influence of the pro-Israel lobby in the United States has been published, drawing attention to the lobbying networks, financial support and political influence surrounding US-Israel relations.
The book, “The United States in the Grip of a Foreign Power,” has been introduced to Pakistani audiences by prominent political commentator Mushahid Hussain Syed through his social media account.
According to Mushahid Hussain Syed, the book has been authored by investigative journalist Eli Clifton and presents what he describes as significant new information about the pro-Israel lobby and its sources of financial support.
In his introduction to the book, Syed highlighted three key points. First, he referred to Jonathan Jay Pollard, a former US Navy intelligence analyst who was convicted of spying for Israel, and alleged that Pollard had provided Israel with classified US intelligence and satellite imagery related to Pakistan’s nuclear programme before his arrest in 1985.
Second, Syed pointed to the history of the concept of a “Greater Israel”, referring to claims that the idea was formally outlined by Israeli General Ariel Sharon in 1981.
Third, he highlighted the role of wealthy American Jewish donors and business figures in providing financial support to Israel, arguing that some prominent donors have maintained strong political commitments to Israel even when such positions have been criticised as conflicting with broader US national interests.
The book also examines the scale of US assistance to Israel over several decades and raises questions about the influence of lobbying groups, political donors and Washington’s foreign-policy establishment on American policy in the Middle East.
According to the account shared by Mushahid Hussain Syed, the book seeks to examine how political influence, lobbying and financial networks have shaped US policy towards Israel and the wider Middle East.
The publication comes amid continuing international debate over Washington’s relationship with Israel, US military and financial assistance to the country, and the influence of lobbying organisations and major political donors on American foreign policy.
The book has attracted attention for its examination of the political and financial forces that, according to its author and supporters, have helped shape the longstanding US-Israel relationship.
