London/Brussels, (Unib Rashid) – Member of Parliament Afzal Khan has called on the British government to take “concrete and urgent steps” in response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, warning that repeated statements without action are losing credibility.
Speaking in Parliament, Khan welcomed the Foreign Secretary’s recent statement and a joint international declaration issued a day earlier, but stressed that “strong words without action now ring hollow.”
He sharply criticized the policies of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing his government of continuing “starvation and the killing of innocent Palestinians.” Khan argued that recent measures, including the suspension of trade negotiations, would not be sufficient to halt the violence.
“We are dealing with an extremist right-wing government,” he said, urging the UK to move beyond symbolic steps.
The Manchester Gorton MP pressed the Foreign Secretary to clarify when Britain would impose a full arms embargo on Israel and formally recognise the State of Palestine, emphasizing that such actions are necessary to uphold humanitarian commitments and international law.
Khan’s remarks come amid growing pressure within the UK Parliament and internationally for stronger action to address the escalating conflict and humanitarian situation in Gaza.
