Geneva, (Younas Khan) – During the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, the Sikh community organized a side event aimed at highlighting alleged human rights violations against Sikhs in India, as well as incidents of targeting and killings of Sikhs abroad.
The event also drew attention to the treatment of Sikh leaders imprisoned in India, alleging unconstitutional and unlawful actions against them. The significance of the event was underscored by the ongoing Human Rights Council session, attended by international human rights organizations and diplomats from around the world.

Speakers at the event claimed that individuals advocating for Sikh rights or mentioning Khalistan are being unlawfully detained in India. They further alleged that even after completing their sentences, prisoners are not released, which they described as a violation of international laws and conventions, including the Geneva Conventions.
The speakers also expressed concern over what they described as a rising trend of human rights violations against Sikhs and other religious minorities in India. They urged the international community to take notice of these issues.
According to the speakers, Sikhs are not only being targeted within India but also in countries such as Europe, the United States, and Canada. They referenced incidents in Canada and the US as evidence of alleged transnational targeting.
The speakers called on the international community to pressure India regarding extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and the release of political prisoners. They also reiterated their commitment to continue their struggle until the establishment of Khalistan.
