Vienna, (Muhammad Amir Siddique) – During 70th Session of IAEA General Conference, Dr. Raja Ali Raza Anwar, Chairman PAEC, delivered a national statement and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to the goals and objectives of the IAEA organization in the area of peaceful applications of nuclear technology.

The Chairman, while reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful nuclear applications for sustainable development & climate resilience, stated that despite contributing less than 1% to global carbon emissions, Pakistan remains among the most climate-vulnerable countries.

Stated that Pakistan is relying on clean sources of energy with 6 nuclear power plants generating 3,530 MW, avoiding ~15 million tons of CO2 emissions annually and preventing 130 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions overall.

In the domain of health, 83 nuclear medicine & radiotherapy facilities, including 21 PAEC cancer hospitals, are treating 80%+ of Pakistan’s cancer patients. Stated that Lahore Institute of Nuclear Medicine & Oncology is now IAEA Collaborating Centre in April 2026.

In December 2025, Pakistan reached a significant milestone with the inauguration of Kashmir Institute of Nuclear Medicine, Oncology and Radiotherapy. The occasion was graced by DG IAEA and acknowledged Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to advancing healthcare.

In the agriculture domain, Pakistan is honored to be among the first recipients of the IAEA-FAO Atoms for Food initiative, which aligns with the country’s national priorities of achieving food security and enhancing resilience to climate-related challenges.

PINSTECH’s recognition as an IAEA Collaborating Centre for water resource management and as a member of Global Water Analysis Laboratory (GloWAL) Network highlights Pakistan’s scientific expertise in the area of hydrology.

The Chairman reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of nuclear safety & security & stated that the 5 decades of internationally recognized safe and secure operations of nuclear installations, demonstrates resilience of Pakistan’s domestic nuclear safety and security regime.
