London, (Zahid Anwar Mirza) – U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to the United Kingdom, stating that if the digital services tax imposed on American social media and technology companies is not abolished, the United States will impose heavy tariffs on British goods.
According to British media reports, President Trump told journalists that the UK should be cautious, as the U.S. could respond with equal or even greater force. He accused Britain of unfairly targeting American companies for financial gain.
The United Kingdom introduced the Digital Services Tax in 2020, imposing a 2% levy on the revenues of large tech companies. The tax applies to firms with global digital revenues exceeding £500 million.
Political and trade analysts warn that Trump’s latest remarks could further escalate trade tensions between the UK and the U.S., with economic relations between the two countries appearing to enter a new phase of uncertainty.
