BRUSSELS/NEW YORK, (Unib Rashid) — Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and held wide-ranging discussions on regional and global challenges, the situation in the Middle East, Palestine, Islamophobia and the threat of terrorism emanating from Afghan soil.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appreciated the UN Secretary-General’s steadfast commitment to the UN Charter and the cause of international peace.

The Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s firm belief that dialogue and diplomacy must remain the principal means of resolving conflicts and restoring peace, particularly in the Middle East.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and statehood, emphasizing Pakistan’s continued commitment to the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed Pakistan’s concerns over the growing phenomenon of Islamophobia and stressed the need for concerted international efforts to address discrimination and hatred against Muslims.

The two leaders also discussed security challenges facing the region, including the growing threat of terrorism emanating from Afghan soil. The Prime Minister highlighted Pakistan’s sacrifices and continued efforts in the fight against terrorism and in promoting regional peace and stability.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked Secretary-General António Guterres for recognizing Pakistan’s contributions to international peace and security, its sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, and its efforts to advance dialogue and durable peace in the region.

The meeting underscored Pakistan’s continued emphasis on diplomacy, dialogue and multilateral cooperation as essential tools for addressing regional and global conflicts.
