Brussels, (Unib Rashid) — The Government of Pakistan has awarded Sitara-e-Imtiaz to Pakistan’s Ambassador to the European Union, Belgium, and Luxembourg, Rahim Hayat Qureshi, in recognition of his outstanding diplomatic services for Pakistan.

In this regard, a special ceremony was held at the Embassy of Pakistan in Brussels, where Deputy Head of Mission Sohail Fiyaz conferred the prestigious civil award upon Ambassador Qureshi on behalf of the President of Pakistan. On the occasion, Consular Officer Asad Awan read out the citation explaining the reasons behind the conferment of the award.

According to President Asif Ali Zardari, Ambassador Rahim Hayat Qureshi, as Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran, played a crucial and central role in de-escalating tensions between Pakistan and Iran following the missile exchanges between the two countries on January 16, 2024. During the rapidly evolving crisis, he provided timely analysis and effective policy recommendations to Pakistan’s leadership.

The citation further stated that by utilizing his exceptional diplomatic skills and extensive contacts in Iran, Ambassador Qureshi successfully kept communication channels open between the two countries. His efforts eventually facilitated the visit of the Iranian Foreign Minister to Islamabad, leading to the restoration of friendly relations and goodwill between the two brotherly Islamic nations.

After receiving the award, Ambassador Rahim Hayat Qureshi thanked Almighty Allah and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the President, Prime Minister, and Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar for the honor.

In his remarks, Ambassador Qureshi said that being awarded the “Sitara-e-Imtiaz,” one of Pakistan’s highest civilian honors, was not only a personal distinction but also a reflection of the trust and responsibility bestowed upon him in serving Pakistan.

He said Pakistan has always played a reconciliatory role on the diplomatic front, particularly within the Muslim Ummah, to reduce differences and promote unity among Islamic countries. He added that he was grateful to Allah Almighty for granting him the opportunity to contribute to safeguarding Pakistan’s interests through diplomacy.

Ambassador Qureshi further remarked that he has always believed the slogan “Pakistan Zindabad” does not belong to any single class, language, ethnicity, or geography, but rather represents an ideology, love, and a prayerful sentiment for the nation.

He also thanked his parents and family members for their continuous love, prayers, and support throughout his journey. Expressing gratitude to all distinguished guests who attended the ceremony, he said their presence and affection made the event memorable.

Concluding his speech, Ambassador Qureshi prayed for Pakistan’s peace, stability, prosperity, and a brighter future.

The ceremony was attended by selected members of the Pakistani community from Brussels and surrounding areas. Later, prominent businessman Jamal Khan, Chairman Kashmir Council EU Ali Raza Syed, Sardar Siddiq Khan, Raja Khalid, Farid Khan, Chaudhry Haq Nawaz, and others presented bouquets to Ambassador Rahim Hayat Qureshi.
