BRUSSELS/NEW YORK, (Unib Rashid) – Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi, along with senior officials from both countries, were also present at the meeting.

During the meeting, the two leaders reaffirmed the close and longstanding ties between Pakistan and Iran and underscored the need to further strengthen bilateral cooperation across areas of mutual interest.

The leaders also exchanged views on the evolving regional situation. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep concern over the prolonged conflict and stressed the importance of restraint, de-escalation and sustained diplomatic engagement to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region.

He also underscored the importance of implementing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and reaffirmed Pakistan’s readiness to continue playing a sincere and constructive role in support of regional peace and stability.

President Masoud Pezeshkian appreciated Pakistan’s principled diplomacy and its efforts to promote regional peace and security. He also highlighted the enduring strength of Pakistan-Iran relations, rooted in shared history, culture and faith, and reaffirmed Iran’s desire to further deepen multifaceted cooperation with Pakistan.

Emphasizing the importance of regular consultations and close coordination in addressing prevailing challenges and pursuing opportunities, the two sides agreed to continue working toward regional peace, security and prosperity.
