BRUSSELS, (Unib Rashid) – The Embassy of Pakistan in Brussels has published a new feature as part of its “From the Archives” series, highlighting the diplomatic services and contributions of Ambassador Amna Baloch, who served as Pakistan’s Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Union from May 2023 to September 2024.

According to the Embassy’s Press and Information Section, Ambassador Amna Baloch’s tenure in Brussels was marked by active engagement, insightful diplomacy and close interaction with the Pakistani community.

During her assignment, Ambassador Baloch maintained close engagement with European Union institutions on issues of importance to Pakistan, including GSP+, trade, climate change and sustainable development. She also worked consistently to strengthen Pakistan’s bilateral relations with Belgium and Luxembourg as well as its institutional engagement with the European Union through regular political and diplomatic contacts.

Engagement with the Pakistani community remained another prominent feature of her tenure. With an open and accessible approach, Ambassador Baloch made time for members of the community, established links with Pakistanis from different walks of life and worked to further strengthen the Embassy’s relationship with the Pakistani diaspora in Belgium and Luxembourg.

Through cultural, educational and economic activities, she also sought to highlight Pakistan’s rich heritage, its people, young talent and growing economic potential to European audiences.

Ambassador Baloch arrived in Brussels with extensive diplomatic experience. Prior to her assignment in Brussels, she served as Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Malaysia from 2019 to 2023 and as Consul General of Pakistan in Chengdu, China, from 2014 to 2017. Her previous diplomatic assignments also included postings in Copenhagen and Colombo, in addition to important responsibilities at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Prime Minister’s Office and the Office of the Foreign Minister.

The Embassy said Ambassador Baloch’s tenure in Brussels reflected sustained engagement, commitment and a strong dedication to advancing Pakistan’s interests.

On 11 September 2024, Ambassador Amna Baloch assumed office as Pakistan’s 33rd Foreign Secretary, becoming the second woman to hold the country’s highest diplomatic position. Following the completion of her tenure as Foreign Secretary, the Government of Pakistan nominated her as Pakistan’s Ambassador to the Republic of Türkiye.

Through its “From the Archives” series, the Embassy of Pakistan in Brussels continues to highlight the contributions of Pakistani diplomats and important chapters in the country’s diplomatic engagement with Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Union.
