Pakistan-Brokered Iran-US MoU Marks Historic Diplomatic Achievement: PM Shehbaz.

ISLAMABAD/BRUSSLES, (Unib Rashid) — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday hailed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Iran and the United States as a landmark diplomatic breakthrough, expressing confidence that it would pave the way for a lasting agreement and contribute to global peace and stability.

Addressing the National Assembly, the prime minister congratulated the nation on what he described as a historic achievement, noting that Pakistan had successfully facilitated dialogue between Tehran and Washington and played a key mediating role in securing the agreement.

“It is a historic moment that Pakistan signed the MoU as a mediator between Iran and the United States,” Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif told lawmakers.

He informed the House that senior leaders from both countries had participated in high-level talks held in Burgenstock, Switzerland, where Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts helped bring the two sides to the negotiating table. The discussions culminated in a joint statement and the signing of the MoU aimed at advancing dialogue and reconciliation.

The prime minister said a ceasefire between Iran and the United States had come into effect and that technical-level negotiations would continue over the next 60 days to develop a comprehensive framework for long-term cooperation.

Expressing optimism about the outcome of the talks, Shehbaz Sharif said the MoU represented an important first step toward a durable agreement that could enhance regional and international stability.

Congratulating the nation, he described Pakistan’s role in facilitating the truce as a significant diplomatic success that had earned widespread recognition from the international community.

“The respect Pakistan has earned around the world through this achievement could not have been bought even by spending billions,” he said.

The prime minister also informed the National Assembly that Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian was scheduled to arrive in Islamabad later in the day for discussions aimed at further strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between the two neighboring countries.

Turning to domestic affairs, Shehbaz Sharif referred to remarks made by Opposition Leader Mehmood Khan Achakzai regarding Balochistan, stating that all four provinces had contributed to the province’s development, which he described as a positive sign for national unity.

He reiterated that Pakistan’s economic progress depended on balanced development across all provinces, emphasizing that sustainable growth could only be achieved when every region of the country moved forward together.

The prime minister’s remarks came amid heightened international attention on the Pakistan-facilitated diplomatic initiative, which observers view as a significant contribution to regional de-escalation and global peace efforts.
