PAC CEO Kazim Saeed Highlights Opportunities for Pakistan at World Food Prize Borlaug Dialogue

DES MOINES/IOWA, (Unib Rashid) – Kazim Saeed Chief Executive Officer of the Pakistan Agricultural Coalition (PAC), attended the prestigious World Food Prize Foundation’s Borlaug Dialogue in Des Moines, Iowa, where global experts, scientists, development professionals and activists gathered to address hunger and advance agricultural development.

Invited by World Food Prize Foundation President Mashal Husain, Saeed participated in the international dialogue, held this year under the theme “Before Hunger Wins.” The event brings together members of the global community to discuss solutions to food insecurity, agricultural innovation and sustainable food systems.

The dialogue also highlighted the legacy of Dr. Norman Borlaug, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate who played a pivotal role in the Green Revolution through the development of high-yielding wheat varieties. His work included collaboration with Pakistani scientists Dr. S. A. Qureshi and Dr. Manzoor Bajwa on the Mexi-Pak wheat variety. Borlaug later established the World Food Prize in his home state of Iowa to recognize outstanding contributions to improving the quality, quantity and availability of food worldwide.

During the event, Borlaug’s daughter, Jeanie Borlaug Laube, told Saeed that her father had a special place in his heart for Pakistan, underscoring the country’s historical connection to Borlaug’s agricultural legacy.

The dialogue featured messages of hope and perseverance from actor and humanitarian Martin Sheen and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai. This year’s World Food Prize was awarded to food safety pioneer Dr. Huub Lielieveld, while Pamela Afokpe received the field research award for her work on eggplant varieties in West Africa.

Saeed said his participation in the gathering provided an opportunity to establish important contacts for Pakistan within the international agricultural and food security community.

His engagement reflects the potential for Pakistan to strengthen international collaboration, exchange agricultural knowledge and explore partnerships aimed at improving food security, agricultural productivity and the resilience of food systems.

The Borlaug Dialogue remains an important international platform for advancing discussions on hunger, agricultural research and practical approaches to ensuring a more food-secure future.
