LUTON, (Shahzad Ali) __ On the occasion of the Foundation Day of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (October 24), the Coordinator of the Kashmir Solidarity Campaign Looton, Haji Chaudhry Muhammad Qurban, has called upon the United Nations to arrange a plebiscite in the region.
In a statement issued to mark the day, Haji Chaudhry Muhammad Qurban emphasized that October 24 is a most significant day in the calendar of Azad Kashmir, marking the establishment of the Azad Kashmir government under the leadership of the “Ghazi-e-Millat,” Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan.
He stated that the role of this government was to serve as a base camp for the freedom of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), and there is a pressing need to restore that role today.
“We urge the United Nations on this important day to arrange a plebiscite in Kashmir,” Haji Chaudhry Muhammad Qurban said. He added that while Pakistan has consistently demanded that the Kashmiri people be given their usurped right to self-determination, Indian leadership has persistently been intransigent and evasive on the matter.
“We urge the Indian leadership to fulfill the promises made by its founding leadership regarding Kashmir and give the Kashmiri people their birthright of self-determination,” he emphasized.
Haji Chaudhry Muhammad Qurban also commented on the current leadership of Azad Kashmir, stating that the region is fortunate to have leadership in capable hands. He noted that the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir, Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq, and the President, Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry, are both visionary politicians dedicated to the selfless service of the people.
“We are fully hopeful that the current Prime Minister and President will take political and diplomatic measures to further advance the movement for the freedom of Kashmir,” he concluded.
