BRUSSELS/NEW YORK, (Unib Rashid) — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar met European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

During the meeting, Senator Ishaq Dar highlighted the importance Pakistan attaches to its partnership with the European Union, particularly in the areas of trade and economic cooperation.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister emphasized the significance of the EU’s GSP+ scheme for Pakistan’s trade relations with the European bloc, underscoring its importance to the country’s economic and commercial ties with the EU.

The two sides also exchanged views on a range of regional and global developments.

Senator Ishaq Dar appreciated the European Union’s constructive engagement with Pakistan during recent regional developments, as well as its recognition of Pakistan’s efforts toward de-escalation and dialogue.

He stressed the importance of returning to the path of dialogue and diplomacy to address regional challenges. He also emphasized the need for the full implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by all parties.

Both sides agreed to maintain close engagement on matters of mutual interest and continue consultations on developments of regional and global significance.
