Europe Criticized for Inactive Role in Iran-US Tensions, MEP Thomas Geisel

Brussels, (Unib Rashid) Member of the European Parliament Thomas Geisel has said that Europe has failed to play the role it should have in reducing tensions between Iran and the United States and promoting global peace. He described Europe’s current approach as disappointing and stressed that it must adopt a stronger, more balanced, and more active diplomatic role.

He made these remarks while responding to a question during a high-level European conference held in Brussels in the presence of Iranian Ambassador Seyed Mohammad Ali Robatjazi.

During the conference, Pakistani community leader and social figure Councillor Nasir Mahmood asked whether Europe had played a fair and effective role in preventing conflict between Iran and the United States, and whether Pakistan should be the only country concerned about promoting peace in the world.

In response, Thomas Geisel stated that Europe is not fulfilling the role it should be playing. He remarked, “I would even say that it is a shame.” According to him, Europe should once again become an active and impartial mediator, contributing meaningfully to peace efforts rather than remaining a silent observer.

Speaking at the event, Member of the European Parliament Ondřej Dostál also emphasized the importance of international peace initiatives and acknowledged Pakistan’s positive role in global diplomacy and conflict resolution efforts.

On the occasion, Councillor Nasir Mahmood requested the Iranian Ambassador to organize more conferences and seminars in Brussels so that young Europeans could hear Iran’s perspective directly and gain a better understanding of different viewpoints on international affairs.

Councillor Nasir Mahmood further stated that MEP Ondřej Dostál expressed his commitment to supporting future events aimed at raising awareness and encouraging dialogue on major international issues. He said that lasting peace can only be achieved through open dialogue, mutual respect, and by listening to all parties involved.
