BRUSSELS, (Unib Rashid) – The European Union has activated its Civil Protection Mechanism to support countries facing severe wildfires, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring that no country has to tackle major wildfire emergencies alone.
The European Commission said the EU’s Copernicus Emergency Management Service (Copernicus EMS) is supporting emergency services by providing critical information and operational assistance to help authorities respond effectively to wildfire threats.
According to the European Commission, the EU is also mobilising aircraft, helicopters and firefighters and deploying them rapidly to areas where they are most urgently needed.
The activation of the Civil Protection Mechanism reflects the EU’s coordinated approach to responding to large-scale natural disasters and strengthening solidarity among member states and participating countries.

Through the mechanism, countries affected by major emergencies can request assistance from other participating states, enabling resources and specialised teams to be deployed quickly when national capacities are under pressure.
The European Commission said the coordinated mobilisation of aerial assets, firefighting personnel and emergency-management resources is aimed at strengthening frontline response and helping communities affected by wildfires.
The EU’s latest action highlights the importance of cross-border cooperation in dealing with increasingly challenging wildfire emergencies and ensuring that affected countries receive timely support when their response capacities are stretched.
