Martyrs of July 13 Laid the Foundation for Kashmir’s Freedom: Haji Choudhry Mohammad Qurban

Kashmir’s Accession to Pakistan is Inevitable, Says Luton-Based Community Leader, Haji Chaudhry Muhammad Qurban

LUTON, (Special Correspondent) __ Prominent Kashmiri community leader Haji Choudhry Muhammad Qurban, speaking from Luton on the occasion of Kashmir Martyrs’ Day, reaffirmed his commitment to carrying forward the mission of the martyrs of 13 July 1931, declaring that Kashmir’s final destiny lies with Pakistan.

In a heartfelt statement marking the solemn day, he said, “The sacrifices of the martyrs who fell to Dogra brutality were not in vain. They laid the foundation of the Kashmiri freedom movement — a movement that continues today despite global indifference and decades of Indian occupation.”

July 13, 1931: A Day That Sparked a Nation’s Resolve

Haji Choudhry Mohammad Qurban recalled the historical tragedy of 13 July 1931, when 22 innocent Kashmiris were gunned down outside Srinagar Central Jail while trying to offer the Azaan (call to prayer) during a court proceeding against a political prisoner.

“One by one, 22 men stood up to complete the Azaan, and each one was shot dead by Dogra forces. Their sacrifice awakened a consciousness across the valley — it was the beginning of a new chapter in our resistance,” he said.

He added that the incident is etched into the soul of Kashmir, and each year, July 13 is commemorated not merely as a memorial, but as a reminder of faith, resistance, and unyielding courage.

British-Kashmiris Must Preserve the Movement Through Generational Awareness

The Luton-based leader called on the Kashmiri diaspora in the UK, especially parents and educators, to actively engage younger generations in understanding the historical and political dimensions of the Kashmir issue.

“Our children must know who they are, what their roots are, and why we continue to raise our voice for Kashmir’s freedom,” he urged. “If we fail to transfer this awareness, we risk weakening a cause that has already cost thousands of lives.”

He stressed that diaspora engagement is critical, especially at a time when misinformation and distraction have sidelined Kashmir in international discourse.

Indian Forces Continue to Violate Human Rights in Indian held Kashmir.

Haji Choudhry Mohammad Qurban strongly condemned the ongoing atrocities committed by Indian security forces in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK). He noted that basic civil liberties, including freedom of religion, movement, and speech, remain suspended under military siege.

“Our mosques are locked. Our leaders are jailed without trial. Our sisters are dishonoured and our brothers are shot dead. What else do you call this if not state terrorism?” he questioned.

He also criticized the international community’s double standards, particularly the silence of Western democracies and human rights organisations.

“Had such atrocities been committed anywhere else, the world would have cried foul. But because it’s Kashmir, and India is a lucrative trading partner, there’s deafening silence,” he said.

Kashmiris Will Achieve Freedom Through Peaceful Means

Reaffirming the peaceful and political nature of the Kashmiri struggle, Choudhry Qurban made it clear that the community seeks justice, not revenge.

“We are not terrorists. We are not separatists. We are freedom-seeking people demanding our UN-promised right to self-determination,” he stated. “Our resistance is based on principles of non-violence, diplomacy, and international law.”

He also called upon the government of Pakistan, as well as Kashmiri leadership on both sides of the Line of Control, to remain united and committed to the final goal: a free Kashmir aligned with Pakistan.

Martyrs of July 13 Are Our Eternal Torchbearers

“The martyrs of July 13 remind us that no power, no tyranny, and no force can crush a nation whose people are ready to sacrifice everything for their honour, religion, and homeland,” he declared.

“Even today, their courage lives in the hearts of every Kashmiri child, every grieving mother, every imprisoned leader, and every freedom fighter in the valley.”

Final Goal: Accession to Pakistan

Haji Choudhry Mohammad Qurban concluded with a clear message:
“Our elders chose Pakistan long before its creation. That choice still stands. Kashmir will one day join Pakistan — not by force, but by the will of its people and the strength of their sacrifices.”
