Chancellor Christian Stocker (ÖVP) told X that this was “an important step towards reducing tensions in an extremely tense situation”. Austrian Chancellor Stocker thanked Pakistan for the mediation.
“This is opening the window of diplomacy a little bit more and creating space for serious talks and negotiations,” said Chancellor Stocker, “because only in this way can a ceasefire lead to lasting peace and avert a global energy and economic crisis.” Chancellor Stocker thanked Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, who visited Austria in February, for his successful mediation efforts.

Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger (NEOS) spoke of “finally (…) a respite to allow diplomacy to achieve a breakthrough. Now the talks must begin,” she demanded.
