It was truly a privilege and a deeply moving experience to welcome to Washington a steadfast and sincere friend of Kashmir, Ustaaz Mustafa Kaya, Member of Turkish Parliament. His unwavering commitment to the Kashmiri cause is well known and deeply respected. Over the years, he has tirelessly organized countless seminars and lectures on Kashmir in Ankara, giving voice to a people whose suffering is too often ignored. These events were organized from the platform of ‘Economic and Social Research Center’ (ESAM).

ESAM emphasizes that fundamental human rights and freedoms must be fully protected to ensure lasting peace and solidarity in social life. The raison d’être of all social institutions is to protect fundamental rights and freedoms. It argues that social institutions and organizations that restrict or abolish fundamental rights and freedoms would, in a sense, have eliminated their very reason for existence.

During Ustaaz Kaya’s visit to Washington at the invitation of the U.S. government, his schedule was exceptionally demanding. Yet, despite these pressures, he graciously accepted my invitation to meet with our board and spent several precious hours with us. This gesture alone speaks volumes about his humility, generosity of spirit, and profound dedication to the cause of Kashmir.

It was also a special pleasure to meet Mehmet Nurullah, a young, energetic, and inspiring leader who heads their office in Washington. His warmth, openness, and genuine enthusiasm left a lasting impression.

We were also introduced to another remarkable individual, Mehmet Birtek from Pennsylvania, a kind and thoughtful person who is deeply engaged in local politics in his community and committed to public service. And Rabiul Choudhary who is quite active in the main stream politics of the United States

Our discussions focused on issues of shared concern, particularly Kashmir. Ustaaz Kaya’s sincere and sustained concern for the people of Kashmir is not symbolic—it has been proven through years of consistent and meaningful work in Ankara, Istanbul and beyond.

I truly cherish the moments I spent with Ustaaz Mustafa Kaya. They were moments of reflection, inspiration, and renewed resolve. Our board members, Dr. Ghulam N. Mir, President World Kashmir Awareness Forum, Dr. Imtiaz Khan, Dr. A. Meer were equally touched and honored to meet such an exceptional human being, whose compassion, integrity, and commitment continue to inspire us all.
