London, (Zahid Anwar Mirza) – The UK is preparing for the arrival of Storm Austin, expected to be the first named storm of the current season, bringing the risk of strong winds and heavy rain to southern England, the south-western regions and southern Wales.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Friday, cautioning that gusts could reach 50 to 60 miles per hour across affected areas, with winds exceeding 70 mph possible in exposed coastal locations.

According to the forecast, the storm is expected to approach south-western Britain on Thursday before moving from west to east on Friday.

Rainfall totals of between 20 and 30 millimetres are possible in affected areas. Wind speeds are expected to ease later on Friday, although further rainfall is forecast over the weekend and into the beginning of next week.

Authorities have advised residents to monitor the latest weather forecasts and official warnings. People planning to travel during the adverse weather have also been urged to check road conditions and public transport updates before setting out.

Residents in areas likely to be affected are encouraged to take appropriate precautions, particularly in exposed coastal locations where stronger gusts could disrupt travel and outdoor activities.
