New York, (News Desk) __ Zahran Mamdani has been elected as the 111th and the first Muslim Mayor of New York. The 34-year-old, who comes from an immigrant background, secured just over 50% of the total votes cast.
Representing the Democratic Party—one of the two major political parties in the United States—Mamdani faced strong opposition from former President Donald Trump and other Republican figures.
However, his campaign, focused on addressing urban and youth-related issues, succeeded in winning the trust and support of the majority.
Political analysts consider this victory a significant achievement for the Democratic Party and one of the first major defeats for the Republicans since President Trump’s re-election.
