UK and Qatar Strengthen Bilateral Relations Through New Defence Agreement

London, (Shahzad Ali) __ In a significant advancement of bilateral ties, the United Kingdom and Qatar have formalized a new defence agreement designed to enhance security and military collaboration between the two nations. The arrangement, which was signed in Doha, reflects the mutual commitment to fostering deeper partnerships in the realm of defence.

During his official visit to Qatar, UK Defence Secretary John Healey engaged in fruitful discussions with His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of Qatar, culminating in the signing of the Defence Assurance Arrangement. This pivotal agreement serves to fortify the existing UK-Qatar defence partnership and establishes a framework for increased cooperation and coordination among land, air, and naval forces.

Both parties underscored the importance of joint planning and strategic collaboration, recognizing the necessity of a unified approach to address contemporary security challenges. The Ministry of Defence emphasized that this agreement embodies Britain’s steadfast commitment to supporting Qatar’s defence capabilities, thereby deepening their strategic partnership.

Beyond defence cooperation, the UK and Qatar enjoy robust economic ties, with British exports to Qatar reaching £4.4 billion in 2025. Furthermore, Qatari investments in the UK have surpassed £40 billion, significantly contributing to various sectors including fintech, life sciences, renewable energy, and cyber security.
