PM Shehbaz Meets IAEA Chief in Vienna, Pakistan–IAEA Nuclear Cooperation Strengthened.

Vienna, (Muhammad Amir Siddique) __ Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi, at the Vienna International Centre (VIC) today, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to expanding cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear technology.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi, and Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s strong support for the IAEA’s role in promoting the responsible application of nuclear technology in areas such as cancer diagnosis and treatment, agriculture, nuclear power generation, and industrial applications. He appreciated the longstanding partnership between Pakistan and the IAEA, noting that Pakistan not only benefits from the Agency’s Technical Cooperation Programme but also contributes actively through the provision of experts and by hosting international training programmes for IAEA Member States.

Director General Rafael Grossi acknowledged Pakistan’s expertise and experience in the peaceful use of nuclear technology, commending the high standards of its engineers, scientists, and technical professionals. He also appreciated Pakistan’s cooperation in the areas of nuclear safety and security, describing the country as a valuable partner in supporting other IAEA Member States. He expressed his expectation of Pakistan’s active participation in the Nuclear Energy Summit to be hosted by France in March 2026.

Later, an agreement was signed designating the **Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Oncology (INMOL), Lahore, as an IAEA Collaborating Centre. The agreement was signed on behalf of Pakistan and the IAEA by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Director General Grossi, respectively.

The developments reflect the deepening partnership between Pakistan and the IAEA and their shared commitment to advancing the peaceful use of nuclear technology for sustainable development.
