Pakistan Assumes Presidency of UN Conference on Disarmament

BRUSSELS/GENEVA, (Unib Rahid) – Pakistan has assumed the rotating presidency of the United Nations Conference on Disarmament (CD), with its representative taking charge on behalf of the country for the current session.

In a statement following the assumption of the presidency, Pakistan’s representative said it was an honour to lead the Conference and expressed the commitment to working closely with all delegations to promote substantive deliberations under Pakistan’s presidency.

The Pakistani presidency will seek to facilitate constructive engagement among participating states and advance discussions on key disarmament and international security issues.

The representative also expressed the hope that the 2026 session of the Conference on Disarmament would conclude swiftly and through consensus, emphasizing the importance of cooperation and dialogue among member states.

The Conference on Disarmament, based in Geneva, serves as the international community’s principal multilateral forum for negotiating disarmament agreements and addressing major global security challenges.

Pakistan’s assumption of the presidency provides an opportunity to contribute to consensus-building and promote meaningful dialogue on disarmament, international peace and security.
