BRUSSELS/YEREVAN, (Unib Rashid) – Pakistan’s first Ambassador to the Republic of Armenia, Shafqat Ali Khan, has presented his Letters of Credence to Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan at a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace in Yerevan.

President Khachaturyan welcomed Ambassador Khan and congratulated him on his appointment, conveying his best wishes for a successful tenure and the effective discharge of his diplomatic responsibilities.

The Armenian president expressed his readiness to support efforts aimed at further strengthening Armenia–Pakistan relations and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Ambassador Khan conveyed the greetings and best wishes of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to President Khachaturyan and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations with Armenia.

The two sides highlighted significant potential for expanding bilateral engagement, particularly in trade and investment, education, culture, people-to-people contacts and other areas of economic cooperation.

The presentation of credentials marks an important milestone in Pakistan–Armenia relations following the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries in 2025. It also represents Pakistan’s first ambassadorial-level appointment to Armenia.

Earlier, Ambassador Khan called on Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ararat Mirzoyan. The minister welcomed him, congratulated him on his appointment and wished him success in his diplomatic responsibilities.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the bilateral agenda, discussed avenues for expanding cooperation and exchanged views on regional and international developments.

Ambassador Khan also met Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Mnatsakan Safaryan and handed over a copy of his Letters of Credence. The deputy foreign minister described the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Armenia as an important policy decision by the leadership of the two countries.

The two sides also discussed prospects for strengthening cooperation through bilateral and multilateral forums.

Ambassador Khan’s engagements in Yerevan underscored the commitment of Pakistan and Armenia to advancing bilateral relations and exploring new avenues of mutually beneficial cooperation.

Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan concurrently serves as Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates and as the country’s non-resident Ambassador to Armenia.
