London, (Unib Rashid) _ British Member of Parliament Afzal Khan has raised serious concerns over the reported closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque during the holy month of Ramadan, particularly in its final ten nights, describing it as a violation of Palestinians’ right to freedom of worship.
In a statement, he urged the United Kingdom to take a firm stand on the global stage in defense of human rights and called for the immediate reopening of the mosque.
Afzal Khan confirmed that he has formally written to the UK Foreign Secretary, asking the government to uphold its commitments to international human rights obligations and to outline what pressure it intends to place on the Israeli government to ensure access to the holy site is restored.
He emphasized the significance of the last ten nights of Ramadan for Muslim worshippers worldwide and stressed the importance of guaranteeing unimpeded access to religious sites.
The development comes amid increasing international concern over restrictions at religious sites in Jerusalem, with growing calls for the protection of religious freedoms and adherence to international law.
