Luton, (Special Correspondent) — Chairman of the Mirpur International Airport Movement (UK & Europe), Haji Chaudhry Muhammad Qurban, has presented a memorandum to the Chairman of the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF), Syed Qamar Raza, highlighting key demands of the Kashmiri diaspora.
The memorandum’s foremost demand is the establishment of an international airport in Mirpur, Azad Kashmir. The diaspora community stressed that such a facility would not only ease travel difficulties and reduce costs for overseas Kashmiris but would also open new avenues for investment in the region.
In addition, the document called for the construction of a motorway and a modern railway network to better connect Azad Kashmir with the rest of Pakistan — initiatives described as vital for regional economic growth and the promotion of tourism.
On matters concerning overseas Pakistanis in the UK, the memorandum urged the government to establish permanent passport service offices in Luton and other cities with significant Pakistani and Kashmiri populations. It further emphasized the need to expand NADRA’s mobile and overseas facilities to prevent delays and difficulties in document renewals and related services.
Haji Chaudhry Muhammad Qurban noted that the Kashmiri diaspora has always stood firmly with Pakistan and Azad Kashmir, contributing significantly to the national economy through remittances and investment. He expressed hope that OPF’s leadership would convey these concerns to higher government authorities and ensure practical measures are taken to address them.
It is worth mentioning that Haji Chaudhry Muhammad Qurban also serves as Coordinator of the Kashmir Solidarity Campaign in Luton and is a senior member of the Luton Islamic Cultural Society, making him one of the most prominent community leaders among the UK’s Pakistani diaspora.
