Barcelona, (Unib Rashid) — Tahreek Kashmir Spain hosted a significant gathering here in Barcelona featuring prominent Kashmiri leader and human rights activist Altaf Hussain Wani. The event, presided over by Muhammad Shafiq Tamsum, President of Tahreek Kashmir Spain, brought together members of the Kashmiri diaspora and local civil society to discuss the deteriorating human rights situation in Indian-occupied Kashmir.

Addressing the assembled audience, both Wani and Tamsum strongly condemned the Indian judicial system for its systematic criminalization of political dissent. They specifically denounced the life imprisonment sentence handed down to Ms. Asiya Andrabi and her associates, noting that the convictions were based merely on their political views and their legitimate demands for rights as enshrined in United Nations Security Council resolutions regarding the people of occupied Kashmir.

The speakers expressed grave concern over the escalating violence perpetrated by Indian state forces, highlighting widespread violations of fundamental human rights and international obligations. They drew particular attention to the misuse of anti-terrorism laws as a tool to suppress legitimate political expression and detain activists without due process.

Altaf Hussain Wani called upon the Kashmiri diaspora community to intensify their efforts in apprising local communities and civil society organizations about the Kashmir cause. He emphasized the historic and humanitarian significance of the struggle, urging community members to serve as ambassadors for truth and justice in their host countries.

Muhammad Shafiq Tamsum reaffirmed Tahreek Kashmir Spain’s commitment to raising international awareness about the plight of Kashmiris and pledged continued advocacy for a peaceful resolution of the dispute in accordance with UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
