London, (Shahzad Ali) __ The Environment Agency is advising the public to remain vigilant regarding the risk of flooding, given that Storm Claudia is bringing additional heavy rainfall across the nation.
Rainfall has already resulted in flooding in northern England, affecting at least 17 properties. Significant surface water and river flooding are anticipated across larger regions of England, especially central areas, from Friday through the weekend.
As of 11: 45 a. m. on Friday, 14 November, there are 97 flood alerts indicating that flooding is possible, and two flood warnings signifying that flooding is expected.
Joe Cuthbertson, Flood Duty Manager at the Environment Agency, stated:
” Significant surface water and river flooding impacts are likely in parts of England on Friday, with substantial river flooding expected to persist into Saturday. Continued effects from rivers remain possible over the weekend.
” Environment Agency teams are actively engaged in flood defence operations and supporting local authorities in their response to surface water flooding. The public is cautioned against driving through floodwaters, as they can be deeper than they appear; just 30 centimetres of flowing water can be sufficient to float a vehicle.
Individuals should consult the ‘Check My Flood Risk’ service, subscribe to free flood alerts, and stay informed about the latest developments via @ Envagency on X.
Floods Minister Emma Hardy commented:
” As certain regions are forecast to experience heavy rainfall, I acknowledge the concerns regarding potential threats to homes and livelihoods.
” She added: ” I am in regular communication with the Environment Agency regarding their response to the anticipated flooding. Alongside local authorities and emergency services, they are already undertaking measures to ensure community safety.
” The public is strongly encouraged to adhere to local guidance over the coming days, enrol in flood warning services, and remain updated through @ Envagency on X to maintain safety.
