Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar Engages with Lord Qurban Hussain, Former Deputy Leader Raja Aslam, and some other Councillors

London, (Shahzad Ali) — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar convened a meeting in the United Kingdom on Monday with esteemed figures, including Lord Qurban Hussain, former Deputy Leader of Luton Council, Raja Mohammad Aslam Khan, and a delegation of councillors representing various towns and cities of London’s surrounding areas. The discussions primarily addressed matters pertinent to the Pakistani-Kashmiri community residing in the UK.

Senator Dar emphasised the longstanding historical and cultural connections between Pakistan and the United Kingdom, commending the essential contributions of parliamentarians of Pakistani origin in enhancing bilateral relations.

During the dialogue concerning Mirpur Airport, Senator Dar informed the delegation that relevant authorities are in the final stages of completing necessary procedural requirements. He proposed a public–private partnership (PPP) financing model for the project and encouraged the Kashmiri diaspora in the UK to explore investment opportunities. The delegation responded positively to this initiative, expressing their willingness to offer full cooperation.

The meeting encompassed an extensive discussion on the lack of fundamental travel infrastructure in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, including railway lines, highways, and airports. Notably, emphasis was placed on the proposed establishment of an international airport in Mirpur, which participants highlighted as crucial for regional development and the convenience of the overseas Kashmiri community. Senator Dar assured the delegation of the Government of Pakistan’s commitment to lend all possible support to realise this project, which he articulated as vital for the socio-economic advancement of Azad Kashmir. He encouraged the Kashmiri diaspora to actively participate in the initiative to help realise this vision.

Additionally, the meeting addressed the recent devastating floods in Pakistan, alongside the significant human and financial losses stemming from military actions in Azad Kashmir and Pakistan. The delegation honoured the sacrifices of the armed forces of Pakistan in safeguarding the nation.

The participants expressed profound concerns regarding the human rights violations occurring in Indian-occupied Kashmir, urging the international community to take prompt action.

The delegation comprised councillors Amjad Ali, Zahoor Ahmed, Anwar Malik, Khtija Malik, Zainab Raja, Liaqat Ali, Amjad Abbasi, Nadeem Khawar, M. Fayaz, among others.
