Deputy Leader of Luton Council raises deep concerns about Fireworks Use, Encourages Community Support

London, (Shahzad Ali) __ The recent surge in late-night fireworks has raised concerns among residents in Luton, prompting the Deputy Leader of Luton Council, Councillor Javed Hussain, to call for a collaborative effort to promote more responsible use of fireworks, especially among the youth.

In his statement, Councillor Hussain addressed the community’s feelings, saying, “The continuous use of fireworks past midnight has become a concern for many and poses challenges to our community’s peace. While celebrating special occasions like Chinese New Year with fireworks is understandable, the frequency of late-night celebrations can be troubling.”

He underscored the importance of considering all community members, particularly vulnerable individuals. “Our community includes many elderly residents, patients, and those with disabilities. We share a responsibility to ensure their well-being. Late-night fireworks can deeply disrupt their sleep and pose risks, especially for those with heart conditions or mental health challenges.”

Councillor Javed Hussain also noted the implications for local students. “A good night’s sleep is crucial for educational success. We must recognise that late fireworks can hinder students’ rest and negatively impact their academic performance.”

He shared the council’s proactive plans to tackle this issue: “We are committed to enhancing our surveillance measures and will enforce regulations prohibiting fireworks after certain hours. These are steps towards maintaining a peaceful environment for everyone.”

Addressing the youth, he expressed his hope for a shift in behaviour: “I urge our younger generation to find alternative ways to celebrate without disturbing others. It’s important to consider our neighbours, elders, and those struggling with noise.”

He reminded everyone of the values that bind the community: “Our culture emphasises respect and harmony, and we must honour these principles and consider everyone’s rights.”

Councillor Hussain also encouraged community cooperation: “If anyone notices illegal fireworks usage, I encourage you to report it to the authorities. Working together, we can foster a better and more tranquil Luton.”

He concluded with optimism, “I believe that by coming together, we can help our younger generation understand the impact of their actions. Our shared goal is cultivating a more peaceful and welcoming city for all Luton citizens.”
