Conservative Councillor Qaisar Abbas has been appointed Vice Chair of British-Pakistani Mayors Association
LONDON,(TW) __Thurrock Councillor Qaisar Abbas has been appointed Vice Chairman of British-Pakistani Mayors Association (BPMA), a cross-party organisation representing British Mayors and Deputy Mayors of Pakistani heritage.
Announcing the appointment, BPMA Chair, Mr. Mushtaq Lashari CBE said: ” There are hundreds of Mayors, Deputy Mayors and Councillors of Pakistani heritage which is a good sign of our involvement in local politics.
Cllr Qaisar Abbas has served his residents and people of all faiths and backgrounds with full dedication as a councillor and 49th Deputy Mayor of Thurrock. He has delivered a number of public welfare projects in the UK and Pakistan. He is the right person for this position and I am optimistic that he will also play his positive role for the British-Pakistani Mayors Association.”
Cllr Abbas on this occasion said: “It is a huge honour to be elected Vice Chair of British-Pakistani Mayors Association. I thank the Chair, General Secretary and Executive Committee for electing me to this position. I will try my utmost best to play my role to support our current and past Mayors, Deputy Mayors and BPMA members.”
Cllr Abbas was first elected as a councillor in 2018. In 2022, he was appointed Cabinet Member for Culture and Communities and in 2023 he was elected 49th Deputy Mayor of Thurrock. Currently, he is Shadow Cabinet Member for Community Partnerships at Thurrock Council.
He has been given dozens of awards for his political and social work and regularly appears on different tv channels.
