Brussels, (Unib Rashid) — The Socialist Mayor of Brussels City, Philippe Close, has congratulated Zohran Mamdani, the newly elected Socialist Mayor of New York City.

In a congratulatory message, Mayor Close stated:

“Congratulations to my new colleague, the Socialist Mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani. This election has given birth to a new breath of hope in the United States at a time when, all too often, fear and repression have prevailed.”

He further remarked that when a major city chooses the path of progress, pluralism, and solidarity, it sends a powerful message to the entire world.

Mayor Close described metropolitan cities as “laboratories of justice”, advocating for closeness among communities and equal access to resources through every policy.

Highlighting the role of progressive leadership, he said that cities led by progressive movements across the globe have proven that development and harmony, diversity and unity, can indeed go hand in hand.

Mayor Close expressed hope that New York — the world’s largest city — will soon become a new example of this vision.
