Brussels City Councillor Mohammad Nasir Attends European Parliament Conference on Global Governance

‘Double Standards Must End If We Want a More Peaceful World,’ Says Nasir

Brussels, (Unib Rashid) – Brussels City Councillor Mohammad Nasir attended a high-level conference titled “The Future of Global Governance” at the European Parliament in Brussels on October 14, 2026.

The conference was jointly organised by Members of the European Parliament Ondřej Dostál and Michael von der Schulenburg. It brought together ambassadors from several countries, including Pakistan, China, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, along with MEPs and prominent figures from various fields. Participants discussed challenges facing the current international system, the importance of international cooperation and the future direction of global governance.

During the event, one of the hosts introduced Nasir to the participants as a close friend and expressed an interest in strengthening cooperation between the European Parliament and Brussels City Council with Nasir’s support. The proposed collaboration aims to create effective platforms through which citizens can make their voices heard at different levels of decision-making.

Addressing the conference, Nasir said that double standards must end if the world is to become more peaceful and harmonious.

He stressed that justice, human rights and international law should be applied equally to every country and nation. He also argued that global power should not be concentrated in the hands of a single country, adding that nations—regardless of their size or influence—should have equal opportunities to participate in international decision-making.

According to Nasir, a fair, balanced and inclusive global system is essential for achieving lasting peace, development and prosperity.

Speaking about his experience as a representative of Brussels, a multicultural city, Nasir said he sees how people from different nationalities and cultural backgrounds can work together to build a better society. He said the same spirit of cooperation and inclusion should guide international relations.

Nasir welcomed the proposal to strengthen ties between the European Parliament and Brussels City Council and pledged to play an active role in promoting cooperation between the two institutions. He said such efforts could help ensure that citizens’ concerns and voices are heard more effectively.

Participants welcomed his views, according to the report. At the conclusion of the conference, Nasir thanked the organisers, particularly Ondřej Dostál and Michael von der Schulenburg, for initiating what he described as an important and timely discussion.

He expressed hope that similar dialogues would continue in the future to build mutual trust and strengthen cooperation among nations.
