Vienna, (Muhammad Amir Siddique) — In light of the ongoing attacks on Iran by Israel and the United States, Austria has relocated its embassy from Tehran to Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.
The announcement was made in Vienna by the spokesperson of Austria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Clemens Mantl. According to the spokesperson, consular operations have been suspended until further notice.
Mantl also stated that there is currently no further need for repatriation flights organized by the Foreign Ministry from the crisis-affected regions of the Middle East. The ministry is strongly recommending that citizens use available scheduled commercial flights.
For example, flights are available from Riyadh in Saudi Arabia or Doha in Qatar.
So far, more than 800 people have been brought back to Austria through four organized flights from Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Mantl added that another 62 Austrian citizens were able to receive assistance for their return through the European Union’s crisis response mechanism. He further noted that regional airspace is gradually being reopened.
