London, (Shahzad Ali) __ Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK, Dr. Mohammad Faisal, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building an international airport in Mirpur, Azad Kashmir.
This assurance was provided during a follow-up meeting at the Pakistan High Commission in London, led by Lord Qurban Hussain, Sitara-e-Quaid-e-Azam. The meeting was attended by Haji Chaudhry Mohammad Qurban, Chairman of the Mirpur International Airport Movement UK and Europe, along with other prominent community leaders.
Dr. Faisal informed the delegation that Prime Minister Mian Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif has personally announced the plan, while Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is overseeing the project’s progress.
He also reiterated the High Commission’s commitment to raising the Kashmir issue on all relevant platforms and to efficiently delivering NADRA and other consular services.
After the meeting, Haji Chaudhry Mohammad Qurban expressed his gratitude to the High Commissioner for granting the audience. He recalled that a similar meeting took place on November 28, 2024, during which Dr. Faisal promised to address the matter with the relevant authorities and provide a progress update within six months.
“As Chairman of the Mirpur International Airport Movement UK and Europe, a responsibility entrusted to me by the community, I feel obliged to keep everyone informed. The community frequently inquires about the status of the airport project,” said Chaudhry Qurban.
He added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had recently emphasized the government’s commitment by announcing a feasibility study for the airport during an Overseas Pakistanis Convention. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar had previously made similar assurances.
“This latest meeting at the High Commission marks an important development,” he noted. “We appreciate the High Commissioner’s reassurance and the ongoing engagement on this vital community issue.”
