Different parts of Azad Jammu & Kashmir have unique opportunities. Rawalakot has significant potential for tourism and higher education. Mirpur, with its strong links to overseas communities, can benefit from greater investment and entrepreneurship. Bhimber has opportunities in agriculture, trade and commercial development, while Muzaffarabad can continue to strengthen its role as an administrative and institutional centre. Realising these possibilities requires improved infrastructure, digital connectivity, investment facilitation and effective development strategies.

The youth of AJK deserve particular attention. A growing number of educated young people seek opportunities to contribute to society, but employment creation remains a major challenge. Expanding higher education, technical skills, information technology, entrepreneurship and private-sector opportunities is essential for converting demographic potential into economic strength.

The historical importance of Azad Jammu & Kashmir has also remained significant in Pakistan’s national discourse. Since the early years of Pakistan, the region has occupied a special place in public consciousness because of its historical, geographical and strategic importance. The phrase “Shah Rag of Pakistan” has often been associated with Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s views regarding the importance of Jammu and Kashmir. Regardless of different interpretations of historical references, the broader message is that a region of such importance requires sustained attention, responsible governance and policies focused on the welfare and confidence of its people.

Governance remains central to the future of Azad Jammu & Kashmir. Strong institutions are built through transparency, accountability, effective administration and respect for lawful processes. Public trust increases when citizens believe that their concerns are heard, institutions function fairly and policies are implemented consistently.
