Brussels, (Unib Rashid) — In a major breakthrough for Pakistan’s fisheries and export sector, the government of Russia has officially approved 16 Pakistani seafood companies to export their products to the Russian market, marking a significant milestone in bilateral trade relations.
The long-awaited approval comes after sustained and coordinated efforts by key Pakistani institutions, including the Marine Fisheries Department and the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, which played a central role in meeting regulatory requirements and facilitating compliance with Russian standards.
According to official sources, the achievement was further supported by the dedicated efforts of Pakistan’s diplomatic mission in Russia, through which 16 fisheries companies successfully secured registration with Russian regulatory authorities, clearing the way for exports.
Commenting on the development, Asim Abrar, CEO of Seagreat Enterprises, Chairman of the Task Force, and Chairman of the Korangi Fisheries Harbour Authority, termed the approval a “historic and long-awaited breakthrough” for Pakistan’s seafood industry. He emphasized that stakeholders had been working consistently for years to gain access to the Russian market.
Industry experts note that entry into the Russian market is expected to significantly boost Pakistan’s seafood exports, diversify export destinations, and strengthen economic ties between Pakistan and Russia. The move is also likely to contribute positively to Pakistan’s foreign exchange earnings and enhance the global competitiveness of its fisheries sector.
The development is being widely viewed as a major step forward, opening a new chapter in Pakistan’s international seafood trade and offering fresh opportunities for growth and investment in the industry.
