Antwerp Pride 2026 Adopts “Fearless” Theme, Emphasizes Unity Amid Rising Extremism in Europe.

Antwerp, (Unib Rashid) – The 19th edition of Antwerp Pride will be held this year under the theme “Fearless.” The theme was selected following extensive discussions within the LGBTQIA+ community, reflecting concerns over the rise of far-right movements in Europe and a potential shift toward conservatism among younger generations. At the same time, it highlights resilience and solidarity within the community.

According to the organizers, the theme conveys a powerful message: choosing visibility for oneself, for each other, and within society despite fear. Chair of Antwerp Pride, Geert Van Pritt, stated that any form of hatred or exclusion is unacceptable, emphasizing the importance of coexistence in everyday life.

He further noted that Pride has its roots in 1969, when individuals who were “fearless” stood up for their rights, adding that today’s generation continues to build on their legacy despite significant societal changes.

The announcement comes in the wake of tensions surrounding last year’s Pride parade, when counter-protests by far-right groups were permitted along the route. Organizers, who described the situation at the time as causing “significant unrest” within the Pride community, said constructive dialogue has since taken place with city authorities to ensure a safe environment for participants and visitors.

The festival will run from August 4 to 9, with the Pride Parade scheduled for August 8 as the highlight of the week. A range of cultural activities across the city will also form part of the celebrations, while the full program is expected to be announced at a later stage.
