Brussels, (Unib Rashid) — Franchises participating in the inaugural Euro T20 League in Belgium have finalized their squads, selecting players through an open draft ceremony.
During the event, five franchises each picked a total of 16 players, including some of the most prominent names in international cricket. The selections were made across multiple categories — Icon, Platinum, and Categories A, B, and C — based on players’ performance, experience, and overall cricketing records.
A total of 17 rounds were conducted, with each franchise signing 12 international players along with 4 to 6 local Belgian players, aiming to promote domestic talent alongside global stars.
The ceremony was attended by several renowned cricket figures, including former Indian wicketkeeper Kiran More, former England Test cricketer and ex-Afghanistan coach Jonathan Trott, South African opening great Herschelle Gibbs, and West Indies legend Shivnarine Chanderpaul.
Former England captain Eoin Morgan, who is serving as the league’s brand ambassador, also attended the draft ceremony.
The tournament is scheduled to take place from June 6 to June 14 at the Zemst Ground in Belgium.
Speaking to Tarkeen-e-Watan, Belgian Cricket Federation President Umair Butt expressed his delight over the development, stating that the league will play a key role in promoting cricket across Europe. He added that it will provide a valuable opportunity for local players to learn and compete alongside international cricketers.
He also thanked his team and supporters, expressing gratitude for making this milestone possible during his tenure.
