Muzaffarabad, (TW News) __ The President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Barrister Sultan Mahmood, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 71 after a prolonged illness. He had been under medical treatment at a hospital for the past several months.
According to family sources, his funeral prayers will be offered tomorrow at 3:00 PM in Khari Sharif.
Barrister Sultan Mahmood was elected as the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on August 25, 2021. Earlier, he also served as the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir from 1996 to 2001.
In February 2015, Barrister Sultan Mahmood joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). However, in the Legislative Assembly elections held a year later, he faced defeat for the first time in his 25-year political career.
He made a political comeback in 2019 by winning the by-election from Mirpur, securing his seat as a Member of the Legislative Assembly once again.
