UN Resolutions Succinctly State: Kashmir is Not an Indian Protectorate

New York, October 28, 2025, (TW News) __ Digital mobile trucks were deployed in New York city, displaying powerful and impactful messages calling on the United Nations to fulfill its pledge to the people of Jammu and Kashmir — the right to self-determination. The campaign, organized by the World Kashmir Awareness Forum (WKAF), effectively reached hundreds of thousands of passersby and residents in the surrounding areas, particularly near the UN headquarters and Times Square, amplifying the call for justice and international attention to the Kashmir issue.

The initiative was part of WKAF’s broader campaign to remind the international community of its moral and legal responsibility under the United Nations Security Council resolutions, which guarantee the people of Jammu and Kashmir the right to decide their political future through a free and impartial plebiscite.

The messages that were displayed included: “End Indian Colonization of Kashmir”; “Hold India Accountable for War Crimes in Kashmir”; “India – Release all political prisoners unconditionally”; “India Involved in Genocide: Kashmiris Demand Plebiscite”; “Indian Forces on Killing Spree: Kashmir Need to Be Set Free”; “Kashmiris Reject Indian Occupation: UN Resolution only Solution”; “UN Resolutions Succinctly State: Kashmir is Not an Indian Protectorate”; “Stop Indian military & demographic terrorism in Kashmir.”

Dr. Ghulam N. Mir, President, World Kashmir Awareness Forum and Executive Producer of a Kashmiri film, ‘Saffron Kingdom’ said that the mass murder over 237,000 Muslim of Jammu was carried out in October 1947 by the Patiala Sikh regiment of India and paramilitary gangs of RSS, armed and abetted by the forces of forces of Maharaja Hari Singh. Its purpose was to ethnically cleanse the province of Muslims to achieve ethnic cleansing of Jammu and Kashmir. All that butchery of hundreds and thousands of Muslims was done under the watchful eyes of Pundit Nehru and Sardar Patel, and with a wink and nod from the saintly eye of the great Mahatma Gandhi. Lord Mount Batten, the last Viceroy of Britian knew of the bloodletting was going on but did not bat and eye.

Dr. Mir stressed that by the time, the actual invasion of Jammu and Kasmir was launched on October 27, 1948, it was too little for Kashmiris, the Pakistanis or the United Nations to do much to salvage Kashmiris living in Kashmir. Now is the responsibility of those living as expats and diaspora to keep waging a peaceful and legitimate struggle to reclaim their God-given rights. Our people have given their lives for decades to resist and reclaim. We shall prevail, sooner or later—God willing!

Dr. Imtiaz Khan, Kashmiri American scholar said that today marks the 78th anniversary of forcible occupation of Kashmir by Indian forces. Since that time number of resolutions by UN have been adopted that succinctly give the people of Kashmir right to exercise their will via UN monitored plebiscite that will provide them a chance to shape their destiny.

Dr. Khan added that successive Indian governments have thumped the nose of international body and have committed gross human right violations against the people of IOK. India has exhibited total disrespect for international laws, norms and legitimate rights of the peace-loving people of the region. A minor spark over the issue can result in major conflagration that can have Apocalyptical consequences for huge human population. It is high time that world community makes a resolve to find a peaceful and acceptable solution to this protracted problem.

Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai, Chairman, World Forum for Peace & Justice said that a false narrative has been concocted by India, out of nothing more than thin air, in a vain attempt to intellectually subjugate a people. This challenge is most serious, since it resonates, even today with more vigor. How often do we hear outlandish statements like, ‘Kashmir is an integral part of India’? These statements do not exist in a vacuum. They are loaded and violent. This form of violence is more insidious, more difficult to confront, for it is attempting to indoctrinate Kashmiris about their past, their present and direct them to a future that does not belong to them. They had become the objects of history rather than the masters of it.

Dr. Fai added that another serious challenge that people of Kashmir face, when attempts are made to confine the Kashmir dispute to a bilateral matter between India and Pakistan as if Kashmiris were inconsequential. This charade of sorts represents an outrageous attempt to restrict discussions of Kashmir, to India and Pakistan to the exclusion of the most important party to the conflict – the people of Kashmir. Today, this strikingly ignorant political strategy has collapsed after the Abrogation of Article 370 & 35 A on August 5, 2019, and no longer is considered an honest initiative for resolving the Kashmir dispute. It has not achieved any of its desired objectives of bettering relations or resolving Kashmiri aspirations for self-determination. It is evident that this policy has proven a colossal failure. If, in more than 78 years, the ‘bilateral masquerade’ has produced nothing more than cheap photo opportunities, then it is better to once and for all, put this show to an end.

Raja Mukhtar, national spokesperson, JKLF North America and main organizer of the event said that the leadership of the Kashmiri political resistance movement, like Mohammad Yasin Malik and human right activists are incarcerated on frivolous charges and lodged in notorious prisons under sub-human conditions. Yasin Malik in particular is facing the situation of life and death.

Raja Mukhtar added that there are well planned attempts to change the demographic character of the state by providing permanent residency and land to extremist Hindus. The ultimate goal is to convert IOK into a Hindu majority state with a long turn plan to achieve favorable outcome in case plebiscite is held in the future.

Sardar Taj Khan, Senior Vice Chairman, Kashmir Mission, USA and co-organizer of the event said that Kashmir cries for international intervention and we, the diaspora can make it happen provided we realize our responsibilities and be united.

Sardar Taj added that the deplorable situation in Kashmir is unacceptable. Kashmir is the most dangerous nuclear hotspot on the planet. It has already sparked two wars between the two nations, and a third would be a global catastrophe as testified by the false flag operation that was initiated by India at Pahalgam.

Sardar Sawar Khan, former Advisor to the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir said that to break the will of Kashmiris, India has deployed over 900,000 soldiers fully armed and with unlimited powers under the draconian Kashmir specific laws. They have wreaked havoc in the region including mass killing of youth, gang rapes and blinding children with pellet guns.

Sardar Sawar Khan added that Kashmir was not an integral part of any country and yet we have the failure of the realization of the expression of self-determination of the people of Kashmir.

Sardar Zarif Khan, Advisor to the President of Azad Kashmir noted that the denial of self-determination has brought death and destruction to the people of Kashmir. Kashmir has been brutally victimized by human rights violations perpetrated by Indian military and paramilitary personnel. During the past three decade alone, more than 100,000 Kashmiris have been killed because of India’s mammoth military occupation and savagery. Yet the international community has remained largely passive, and crowned India with a veto power over outside intervention, including the recent mediation offer by President Donald Trump.

Advocate Sardar Imtiaz Khan Garalvi said that the world powers should exert its considerable power of persuasion to mediate a peaceful conclusion of the Kashmir conflict with India, Pakistan, and the Kashmiri leadership. Bilateral talks and negotiations over Kashmir between Pakistan and India have proven sterile for 78 years, and nothing in that dismal equation has changed. Kashmir continues to be a nuclear flashpoint in South-Asia, periodic eruptions will continue to risk the nuclear neighbors and violence will continue to chase the region unless the Kashmir problem is resolved to the wishes of the people of the state.

Sardar Shoaib Irshad, General Secretary, Kashmir American Welfare Association (KAWA) called upon the United Nations Secretary General to impress upon the parties concerned to create an atmosphere for a free and impartial plebiscite in Kashmir that will guarantee peace and prosperity in the whole region of South Asia. Sardar Shoaib added that RSS extremist ideology has become a huge problem not only for the Muslims of India but also for other minorities, including Christians and Dalits.
