UK-India Naval Exercise Strengthens Defence Ties, Boosts British Jobs

London, (Shahzad Ali) __ The United Kingdom’s defence partnership with India reached a new milestone as the UK-led Carrier Strike Group (CSG25) carried out joint military exercises with the Indian Armed Forces, concluding a successful visit to India as part of its eight-month Indo-Pacific deployment under Operation Highmast.

During the visit, the UK’s flagship HMS Prince of Wales and accompanying vessels joined India’s INS Vikrant for Exercise Konkan in the western Indian Ocean. The drills enhanced operational cooperation, deepened mutual understanding, and demonstrated the growing strategic alignment between both nations.

The UK and Indian Air Forces also conducted combined air operations, reflecting shared security interests in the region.

Defence Minister Lord Vernon Coaker said the deployment highlighted the strength and reach of the UK Armed Forces and its role in promoting global security.

“We have showcased leading-edge defence innovation that strengthens our trading relationship with India and secures British jobs,” he said.
British High Commissioner to India, Lindy Cameron, described India as “a top priority partner” and said the visit underscored the revitalised relationship between both countries.

“Together, the UK and India are focused on the future with our shared vision for 2035, delivering growth, prosperity, and security in a rapidly changing world,” she added.
The visit follows two major defence deals worth over £600 million, including a £350 million contract to supply Lightweight Multirole Missiles (LMM) to the Indian Army — securing 700 jobs in Northern Ireland — and a £250 million agreement to advance cooperation on electric-powered naval engines.

CSG25 will now depart the Indo-Pacific for the Mediterranean before returning to UK waters later this year, continuing to strengthen Britain’s global defence partnerships and commitment to regional stability.
