US-Funded Heritage Projects Revitalize Lahore’s Walled City, Boost Tourism and Economic Growth.

Lahore, (TW News) __ American leadership continues to deliver tangible results in Pakistan through sustained investment in cultural preservation and community development. Over the past decade, the United States has invested nearly USD 2.6 million to help preserve iconic heritage sites in Lahore’s Walled City, including the Lahore Fort and the historic Wazir Khan Mosque.

These initiatives have supported skills training, job creation, and tourism-led economic growth, while strengthening local communities and contributing to long-term stability and opportunity—outcomes that benefit both Pakistan and the United States.

US Consul General Mr. Stetson Sanders recently joined the inauguration ceremony of the newly transformed Food Street in the Walled City, a project that showcases how targeted international investment can turn historic locations into vibrant public spaces and sustainable engines of economic activity.

Speaking at the event, Consul General Sanders congratulated all stakeholders involved in the initiative, stating:
“Congratulations to all the partners and everyone involved in this project and the many others completed and underway, for your commitment to ensuring the Walled City of Lahore remains a source of pride for all Pakistanis and a destination for travelers from the world over.”

The revitalisation of Lahore’s Walled City stands as a model of heritage conservation combined with inclusive development, reinforcing the role of cultural preservation in driving tourism, employment, and shared prosperity.
