London, (News Desk) __ The UK government has announced a nationwide initiative to provide Artificial Intelligence (AI) training to every adult across the country, aiming to equip the workforce with essential digital skills for the future. The short courses, most of which can be completed in under 20 minutes, will teach people how to effectively use AI tools in the workplace.
According to the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, the initiative has received strong backing from a panel of business experts as well as trade unions. The government believes that widespread AI training will help workers automate routine tasks, allowing them to focus on higher-skilled roles and boosting productivity across various sectors.
Participants who successfully complete the courses will be awarded a virtual AI Foundation badge, certifying their basic AI competency. Ministers are confident that the UK will become one of the fastest adopters of AI technology among G7 nations, as demand for AI-skilled workers continues to grow in almost every industry.
However, concerns remain over the potential misuse of AI technology. Workers’ representatives have warned about ethical risks and improper applications of AI tools. Earlier this year, a review into the decision to ban Maccabi Tel Aviv football fans from attending an Aston Villa match revealed that the police had relied on flawed technology, leading to inaccurate outcomes.
In addition, criticism has been directed at Elon Musk’s AI chatbot tool, Grok, after reports suggested it could be used to generate sexual images of individuals without their consent. These incidents have intensified calls for stronger safeguards around AI use.
Technology Secretary Liz Kendall stated that the government is committed to protecting people from the risks associated with AI, while ensuring that everyone can benefit from its advantages. “We will make sure AI is used responsibly and safely, so that it works for people, not against them,” she said.
