UK Announces £1.33 Million Humanitarian Aid for Pakistan’s Monsoon Relief

London, (Shahzad Ali) __ The United Kingdom has taken a significant step by announcing £1.33 million in humanitarian aid aimed at bolstering Pakistan’s response to the challenges brought on by the 2025 monsoon season. This generous funding is set to benefit over 223,000 individuals across seven districts affected by flooding, including Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

This aid will facilitate a wide range of crucial emergency and recovery initiatives. Key efforts include the delivery of dry food rations, search and rescue operations, mobile medical camps, and the rehabilitation of drinking water systems. Furthermore, the restoration of irrigation channels and support for livelihoods and agriculture are essential components of this comprehensive aid package.

British High Commissioner, Jane Marriott CMG, OBE, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating: “Through UK-funded programmes, vital assistance is reaching communities affected by flooding and landslides. Working closely with national and provincial authorities and partners, the UK remains committed to strengthening Pakistan’s disaster response and resilience.”

In addition to financial support, the UK has trained 2,400 community volunteers in search and rescue operations across vulnerable districts in Pakistan. Notably, 25 volunteers from Charsadda have joined the efforts of Rescue 1122 in Buner, providing invaluable assistance during a critical time when many individuals are still unaccounted for or trapped beneath debris.

Mobile medical camps are also being established in areas where health facilities have been compromised, ensuring that essential healthcare remains accessible. The distribution of non-food items, food rations, shelter materials, and dignity kits for women is a vital part of the support being provided to displaced families. Meanwhile, District Coordinators from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) in Swat and Buner are playing an instrumental role in coordinating the activities of humanitarian organizations on the ground, ensuring that aid reaches those who need it most effectively and efficiently.

This collaborative effort inspires hope and demonstrates a strong commitment to supporting communities in overcoming the adversities posed by the monsoon season.
