Austria’s National Day was celebrated with traditional enthusiasm on October 26, with 1,000 new military recruits sworn in at Vienna’s Heldenplatz. President Alexander Van der Bellen and Chancellor Christian Stocker stressed the changing security situation in Europe and the need to strengthen national defence capabilities.
