Washington, DC. September 15, 2024 (TW) __ A group of Kashmiri-Americans including Dr. Imtiaz Khan, Kashmiri-American scholar, Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai, Chairman, World Fortum for Peace and Justice and Dr. Amjad visited on September 14, 2024, Sardar Zarif Mohammad Khan, Advisor to the President of Azad Kashmir and a prominent Kashmiri human rights activist who is recuperating from his recent back surgery, at his home in Virginia.
Sardar Zarif is under excellent medical care and his loving family are providing him utmost love and attention. To see the smiles on their faces was very enchanting. It was satisfying to watch the progress Sardar Zarif has made despite somewhat negative prognosis of the ailment.
Dr. Amjad who had visited him last month was pleasantly surprised to notice the recovery Zarif Sahib has made and the confidence he has built. Thanks to Almighty Allah, Zarif Sahib can stand and walk hundreds of steps without any discomfort. If he continues to make the headway in this manner Insha’Allah in near future, he can jump back to normal routine.
It was spectacular to watch his strong determination and interest in the affairs of occupied Kashmir. Sardar Zarif got deeply engrossed with the group in the conversation related to upcoming demonstration in New York during speech of Indian delegate to the UN General Assembly. The modalities of the protest were discussed, and strategies were deliberated to ensure maximal attendance. He along with Sardar Shoaib Irshad, Sardar Zubair Khan, Sardar Aftab Roshan Khan, Raja Liaqat Kayani and others have already contacted the bus company for the purpose and are continuously making telephone calls to persuade members of Kashmiri American and Pakistan American community to participate in the rally.
As in the past Zarif Sahib will be an important player in this rally and strong message to world and especially Indian establishment will be communicated. Impending elections in the occupied land, held under the supervision of over 900,000-gun wielding personnel will not be acceptable. Only election that is justifiable will be free and fair plebiscite held under the auspices of United Nations. This is explicitly stated in the UN Security Council resolution # 91 of 1951 and #122 of 1957 to which India is a signatory. These resolutions prohibit any unilateral action to change the disputed nature of the State of Jammu and Kashmir. They also clearly state that election in occupied Kashmir has no bearing.
It is to be noted that the United Nations Security Council Resolution # 122 “declares that the convening of a constituent assembly as recommended by the General Counsel of the ‘All Jammu and Kashmir National Conference’ and any action that assembly may have taken or might attempt to take to determine the future shape and affiliation of the entire State or any part thereof, or any action by the parties concerned in support of any such action by the assembly, would not constitute a disposition of the State in accordance with the above principle.”
We wish Zarif Sahib to exhibit continued recovery so that similar to past he can carry on the struggle with other freedom loving Kashmiri brothers and sisters.
